Frequently asked questions
Answers about how the site works, how recipes are tested and how you can use them.
Are the recipes really free?
Yes. Every recipe on AKC is free to read, print and cook. There is no subscription, no paywall and no app to install. The site is supported by advertising and a few clearly labeled affiliate links.
How are recipes tested?
Each recipe is cooked at least twice: once by the writer and once by a second cook who follows only the written instructions in a standard home kitchen. If anything is unclear, the recipe goes back for edits before publishing.
Where do the nutrition numbers come from?
From the USDA FoodData Central database, calculated for the ingredients and serving size listed. They are estimates; brands, cuts and portion sizes change the totals. Please consult a professional for medical dietary needs.
Can I change serving sizes?
Yes. Most recipes scale cleanly by multiplying the ingredients; baking recipes are the exception, so we note when a recipe should not be doubled.
How do I search?
Use the search box at the top of any page. Search by dish (“lasagna”), ingredient (“chickpeas”), diet (“vegan”) or time (“30 minutes”), or browse by category.
Can I print a recipe?
Yes. Every recipe page has a Print button in the side panel; the print layout drops the images and ads and keeps ingredients and method.
Can I use your recipes on my blog or in a cookbook?
You may cook them, share the link and quote a short excerpt with a link back. Republishing a full recipe or our photographs and illustrations requires written permission; see our Terms of Use.
I have an allergy. Are recipes labeled?
Recipes are tagged for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free where applicable, and ingredients are listed in full. We cannot guarantee any recipe is free of an allergen; please read ingredient lists and product labels yourself.
Can I submit a recipe?
We welcome submissions from home cooks. Send the recipe with a note about where it comes from through the contact page. If we publish it, we test it first and credit you.
Do you use AI to write recipes?
No. Recipes are written and tested by people. We may use software for nutrition math and for spotting typos.
How often are new recipes added?
Every weekday. Subscribe to the newsletter to get five tested recipes a week.
How do I report a mistake in a recipe?
Use the contact page and include the recipe name and the step. We correct errors quickly and note the update on the page.
